NHW – Reporting advice

Reporting and Alerting Your Local Area
We frequently receive information of crimes and reports of suspicious activities from members of Avon and Somerset Watch, which in turn we forward to the Constabulary. However, reporting to us is often the ‘first port of call’ – when it really should be to the police.

Details to who to call; the options; and under what circumstances are provided on our website at;  https://www.asnwa.org/reporting-crime and https://www.asnwa.org/wildlife-crime. The police, in turn, will send out ‘Alerts’ of formally reported crimes of concern in your area.

In addition to this, alerting each other is also an important and key part of reducing crime and increasing crime prevention in your area and across Avon and Somerset. Not only does this help raise a wider awareness of issues, but it also reinforces community response and helps to dispel that sense of that a crime or issue is local to just you – when in fact it affects, or could affect, many others.

So please use the Telegram system that we have set up for you to Alert others in your area and to discuss issues.

Details are to be found at; https://www.asnwa.org/asw-live and https://www.asnwa.org/asw-rural

Avon and Somserset Live is the general channel, whilst Avon and Somerset Rural is to communicate and raise Rural Affairs issues.

30/04/2021 9788 Somerset: Flubot, Text Message Scam.

Dear Members,

We have been made aware of a new text message scam called Flubot. This is a malicious piece of Spyware that is installed on your Android device once you receive a text message asking you to install a Tracking App due to a ‘missed package delivery’. The ‘Tracking App’ will actually steal your passwords and other sensitive data, whilst sending messages to your contacts to do the same.

The text message asks the user to click on a link (PLEASE DON’T), doing so will take you to a website where you will be prompted to download the App (DEFINATELY DON’T).

Please forward any scam messages to 7726 (SPAM on your keypad), which is a free reporting service.

Although this scam only appears on Android phones at the moment, Apple IOS users should remain alert as this could apply to these handsets at some point.

Please see the link below for information on the National Cyber Security Website.

Planning Application at The Willows, Lattiford

Retrospective Planning Permission sought by the caravan and vehicle storage facility sited at The Willows in Lattiford.

You may be aware of this hitherto unauthorised development at The Willows but may not have been aware of the retrospective Planning Application that has now been put before the South Somerset District Council.  As well as adversely impacting on the neighbouring property, Rose Farm, this development has implications for many residents and properties in the closely surrounding area.

If you would like to update yourself with the proposal the planning application reference is 21/00485/FUL and can be viewed on the SSDC website.  Several North Cheriton residents have already placed objections on file and if, after reading all the objections lodged, you wish to do similar then there is an element of urgency as all objections should be made by this Friday, 23rd April.  Click this link to open the Planning page     https://publicaccess.southsomerset.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=makeComment&keyVal=QOCVO6OWN2C00
