Recycling & Waste Collections

Rely not on jubilation inspiration – check all your waste collections

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee’s two bank holidays mean all waste pick-ups – recycle, rubbish, garden – shift over nine days, with Saturday collections twice.

There are no pick-ups on Thursday 2 June or Friday 3 June. Thursday’s collections are on Saturday 4 June, Friday’s move to Monday 6 June, and that week’s collections are then one day later, including pick-ups due on Friday happening on Saturday 11 June.

Do check if any changes could cut across your Platinum plans or if a waste truck could become part of – or hold up – your Jubilee parade or street party.

PS: It is easy to check, print, download and add to your smart device all your kerbside collection days via My Collection Day at somersetwaste.gov.uk.

Geological Map of North Cheriton

To any budding Geologists (and old fossils!)

Do you have the Mere Fault running through your back garden?! Find out below!*

I have taken the liberty of producing a simplified vintage-style map of the geological outcrop in and around North Cheriton Village. Local stratigraphy is listed along with any significant rocky exposure. Formation boundaries are delineated as green lines with Fault structure presented as red lines.

This may be of interest to some. The high-resolution file can be downloaded here.

*The presence of these fault(s) near or under your property is not a cause of concern. Map details are for interest/artistic purposes only and should not be used for any meaningful subsurface calculations.

Will Wills, Local Geoscientist, Cheriton Hill.

NHW – good news

At 12:45pm today officers located missing 15-year-old girl Maddie at an address in Bristol.

Maddie had been missing from her home in the Southmead area of the city since 26 April.

Three men inside the address have been arrested on suspicion of child abduction.

Both Maddie’s foster parents and family have been informed.

Detective Inspector Laura Miller said: “We’re delighted to confirm Maddie has been found.

“Three men are in police custody and will soon be questioned by officers.

“We’re extremely grateful for all the support the public gave us in our search for Maddie and would like to reassure them she is now being provided with all the care and support she needs.

“We appreciate there is significant interest in this case and I’d ask people not to speculate and to think about the impact it may have on Maddie and her loved ones.”

Enquiries are ongoing.
