The Village Hall Committee are organizing another weekend of decorating as part of your Village Hall refurbishment on Sat 24th and Sun 25th May.
We will be concentrating on the wall above the wooden panelling, so ladders will be involved. Sanding, filling and painting will be the order of the day and, as we all know from the last fantastic effort, many hands definitely do make light work!
If you can spare some time on either day, please could you add your name in the “comments” box below or contact one of the committee. This will help us plan the weekend in the most efficient way.
Village Hall Committee
NORTH CHERITON & DISTRICT WI
invite you and your friends to an illustrated talk
THE SOMERSET GREAT CRANE PROJECT
on Thursday 15th May at 8.oo pm
at North Cheriton Village Hall
The Great Crane Project has been re-introducing Common Cranes to the Somerset levels since 2010. This illustrated talk will explain the background to the project including the history of cranes in the UK, the various stages of the re-introduction process, how they have been achieved and the prospects for future breeding and expansion of the population.
Our speaker, Mr Roger Lucken, is a volunteer with the project and is also involved with other RSPB activities. He is Chairman of the Polden Area Group of Somerset Wildlife Trust, a trustee and volunteer with Secret World Wildlife Rescue, a member of the team that monitors birds in Bridgwater Bay on behalf of the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) and a regular participant in SpringWatch and AutumnWatch camps in Malta combatting illegal hunting and trapping of migrating birds.
We are very fortunate to have such a well-qualified speaker on such a fascinating subject so have decided to open the meeting to others in our village and their friends. There is a modest charge of £1.50 which includes a cup of tea!
To help us provide the right number of chairs and cups & saucers, please let Veronica Goodenough know by Monday 12th May if possible: telephone 01963 33255 or
Just to remind you that our next meeting is our discount evening at Castle Gardens, if you would please arrive by 6.45pm for a 7pm start. Subs will be collected from anyone who hasn’t yet paid. Also the plant sale is on May the 24th at Horsington village hall, plants can be delivered between 9am and 9.45am, the sale will start at 10am and we hope it will be as successful as last year. The home made cakes also went down very well so anyone who would like to donate one perhaps you would be kind enough to let the committee know. I look forward to seeing you all in Sherborne on the 13th.
